Guest Policy
(NJ Transit)

All of the following items and behaviors are strictly prohibited on all NJ TRANSIT buses, trains, light rail vehicles, stations, platforms, terminals, and bus lanes:

  • No Weapons (of any kind)
  • No Hazardous Items
  • No Smoking or Vaping
  • No Food or Beverages (of any kind in open or closed containers)
  • No Illegal Drugs or Narcotics
  • No Animals or Pets (except trained service animals)
  • No Offensive or Political Materials
  • No Solicitations
  • No Trespassing in Restricted Areas
  • Restricted Vehicles: Foldable, standard, or tandem bicycles, hoverboards, gasoline-powered personal vehicles, and similar powered devices.
  • Flags and Banners: Only football club or official country flags are allowed if they do not exceed 
2 m x 1.5 m (78 in x 60 in), are made of non-flammable material, and do not pose a safety risk. Flagpoles or banner poles are prohibited, except for flexible “double poles” made of non-flammable plastic, up to 1 meter long and 1 centimeter in diameter (39 inches long and less than ½ inch wide).
  • Random Inspections: Customers and their belongings may be randomly selected and checked to ensure safety and compliance with NJ TRANSIT rules.
  • NJ TRANSIT personnel may refuse items or passengers if they pose a safety risk to others or property.
  • Hold onto your personal items and do not leave them unattended. Keep aisles clear and seats available for other riders. Before leaving your seat, double-check your belongings. If you leave anything behind, submit a Lost & Found inquiry HERE.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Text 65873 or call NJ TRANSIT Police at 888-847-7658 to report anything suspicious.
